As you might be able to tell, I am trying to make it a habit to make more public posts to dreamwidth, as I quite miss being involved here in some way or another. *_* I've been kicked in the butt multiple times by freelance work so far, and I am exhausted, but I promised myself I'd pamper myself today and tomorrow before I go back into the full swing of it. Overall it's been all good and I think I didn't do too bad for my first foray back into the writing business on my own. :D

---

There was a flash fiction contest I tried to join but then at the last minute, I decided against it, because it was so... vague. Even if it was two corporations that were both legit, all the photo said was, "submit your story to [email] and get a chance to win [x] prizes and get published in [x]!" Not even a link to a post with mechanics, or what happens to your rights after you submit... and they didn't make one, despite tons of people asking in the comments (though they did respond, it seems). I err on the side of caution that if they don't take the effort to make a page compiling their rules and copyright stance, I'll just... not risk it?

On the bright side, I have about 150 words of a seedlet for a possible new short story... about two girls who have run away... I don't know if I can pull off what I want to do with it. Maybe I can even use this for my thesis...?

So many workshops and anthologies I want to join, but one at a time, self. You've just started getting this freelance working thing down again (albeit you kind of overdid it, ahaha, tho some of that was no fault of your own)... it takes time to master something. :)

---

I still need to fix my schedule for schoolwork... I definitely did not do well on that. But, progress!

How are you all? :)

I don't even know. We went to a Japanese buffet today and had tons of salmon and tuna sashimi, as well as ebi tempura. Yet somehow I decided to change the 'tempura' into 'mushrooms'. This is loosely based on a joke Aiken used to tell me whenever he left mushrooms on his plate: "Mushrooms are my friends..." I might continue it into some kind of bizarre horror story, but I'd have to read up a lot of Junji Ito again to get the eerie feeling I want for whatever this piece will eventually become.

I've decided to stop counting days (not that I was, anyway; I was still going by whatever day it was even if I missed something. But math.) I'll just count at the end of the entire year. :P I don't want to have to start doing math whenever I keep missing days. I'll be labelling things by the date I did them instead. c:

Day 003
Daily Goal: 100 Words
Today's Output: 147 Words
Series: Project Less Talk, More Robots
Characters: Glynn, 'Glen'
Content Warnings/Triggers/Mentions: discussion of transgender dysphoria

Author Notes:
One of the ideas I had while making LTMR for NaNoWriMo 2007 was for Glynn to have a parallel universe version of himself as a woman. Multiple versions of the same person, or parallels of the same person in different universes, are something that have always stuck with me from the anime I watched as a kid (even if, though I thought them to be the same person, they turned out to not actually be the same person in canon! Oops.) As I learned more about gender and sexuality, it started feeling more and more right for Glynn to be genderqueer or gender fluid, and so this drabble explores their interaction after they meet for the first time.

I am 100% open to critique of my work in this regard. While I identify as genderescent and non-binary, I can't say I am comfortable using the label trans for myself.

This drabble is a raw, rough, and unedited practice piece.

Drabble a Day 2015
Day 002
Daily Goal: 100 Words
Today's Output: 101 Words
Series: Project Henna Hotel
Characters: Hotel Manager (to be named), Julius
Content Warnings/Triggers/Mentions: None?

Author Notes:
Project Henna Hotel is an old idea of mine wherein several people find themselves stuck in a strange hotel. For whatever reason, after their first night, they wake up with animal ears and tails that conform to their personalities and/or pasts. (I'm also thinking of just nixing the whole animal deal altogether, or work with a world wherein it's already a normal trait.) Ideally I want everybody's stories to intertwine somehow. It's largely inspired by Gregory Horror Show and Hotel Dusk, both games set in Hotels.

The original draft had Miles Risley find himself at the hotel after trying to follow his runaway father into the street. Miles will know at least one or two people who currently reside in the hotel. In this drabble, I explore the idea of telling the story from Julius', the concierge/bellboy, point of view instead.

This drabble is a raw, rough, and unedited practice piece.

Content Warnings/Triggers/Mentions: Food, Blood/Injury

Author Notes:
Yna is a young scientist working for an elite university that specializes in machinery. She admires her superior, Gen. Hendrickson, the leader of the military defense group that her university partners up with. In this world, science rules supreme, with giant machines considered the future. Magic is believed to be non-existent, and any groups that practice such beliefs are oftentimes punished. How apt that Yna has a secret she doesn't feel safe telling anybody...

If you've seen the "Brides Beware" post floating around lately (about a bride who got scammed out of P13,000 in a too-good-to-be-true deal), you may have noticed a disturbing trend in both the comments section and the statuses of people who have been sharing it: mocking and blaming... not really the scammer... but the bride.

In response, I wrote this article. Please read it if you have the time, and share with other people if you would be so kind.

Thank you.

This is a scene from a possible spin-off series from my still tentatively titled universe, "Less Talk, More Robots." I... don't know if I want it to be a high school AU, haha.

Glynn is a genderfluid musician who inadvertently finds himself piloting a giant robot in a parallel universe to find his best friend. Yna is a young scientist working for an elite university that specializes in machinery. She works under her supervisor whom she idolizes. Unfortunately her supervisor believes magic to be hoo-ha. Well...

I have friendship feels for these two.

~ * ~

“You can do that?” Glynn asked, his eyes focused on the small orb of blue light that was floating in the palm of Yna’s right hand. Glynn reached out to touch the light, letting only the tips of his fingers press against the orb, and he winced, expecting it to burn him. It didn’t. Yna smiled, took Glynn’s hand, and gently passed the ball so that it now floated above his own palm. Glynn stared at it in amazement. It felt warm, and so did her hand.

When I'm tempted to just go for it and write a series of short stories on the fly about a crossover pairing from two of my stories because dang it I think they are cute together and I always think of them together anyway.

(Maybe I should try writing a 100 word drabble during lunchbreak...)

I wrote a little piece about trying to regain my childlike creativity. It's been such a struggle for me lately, especially with my depression, and trying to juggle graduate school, my day job, and freelance work. I think it's always worth it to sit back and examine what's going on, and maybe, somehow, keep that spark alive.
